Kwara Assembly seeks establishment of Local content development agency

The Kwara state Government has been enjoined to establish State Local Content Development Agency in accordance with the Kwara state Local Content Law 2012 passed by the State House of Assembly to further enhance the Well-being of the people of the State.

This is the resolution of the House after considering a Matter of General public Importance raised by a Member representing Essa/Shawo/ Igboidun Constituency Hon Hassan Oyeleke on the non establishment of the Agency 4 years after the enactment of the Act giving legal backing to the Agency.

Reading the resolutions of the House, the Deputy Speaker ,Elder Mathew Okedare, who presided over the sitting, said the establishment of the agency, would go along way to empower indigenous contractors, experts and artisans in the State.

Raising the Matter at the floor of the House, the Leader of the House, said the establishment of the Agency and implementation of the law would enhance efficiency and address joblessness among the teeming youth in the State.

Hon. Oyeleke who emphasized the need to protect the interest of the people of the State, in the execution of projects, said the local content policy, passed by the Legislature in 2012, would address poverty, in the State.

He said the policy was in line with happenings at the national level, adding that, as legislators, they would continue to protect the state's indigenous industries, experts , raw materials and manpower to enhance the well-being of the citizenry.

In their contributions , Most Members emphasized the importance of the Local Content Development Agency to the socio- economic emancipation of the State and urged the State government to implement the law it initiated in 2012.

They expressed confidence that if the State government established the agency, the People of the State would reap its full benefits, stressing that the State was endowed with potentials that can compete favourably, with others in the world and urged the State government to explore the potentials for the development of the State.
