The Rector of the Ilorin Aviation College, Captain Abdulmummeen Abdulkareem, said the school will start helicopter pilot training for eligible Nigerians and foreigners from October this year.

Abdulkareem, who spoke in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, said that aviation training was expensive.

He, however, said that cost of training at the school would be made affordable to students. He said that the college would soon start training in aircraft maintenance for youths as a way of reducing unemployment in the country.

The rector regretted that the aviation sector in Nigeria was dominated by expatriates, saying that the situation was partly responsible for unemployment in the sector.

AbdulKareem called on commercial banks to introduce study loans for young Nigerians to pursue training in aviation and other areas to contribute to nation's development. He said that the college had graduated over 70 commercial pilots since it started operation in 2012.
