Obuh says Kwara Utd will strengthen squad ahead of NNL second round
Technical Adviser of Kwara United Football Club, John Obuh, says he will be strengthening his squad ahead of the crucial second round of the 2015/2016 Nigeria National League (NNL).
The club's Media Officer, Jimoh Bashir, in a statement Saturday in Ilorin quoted Obuh as saying the league's second round was going to be crucial and a drastic move was needed. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obuh said this after the "Harmony Boys" forced FC Zamfara to a 1-1 draw in Gusau in an NNL week seven match.
The coach who was appraising the team's performance in the first round however commended the Kwara State Government and the state's Ministry of Sports for their support which made them excel. "Equally, the team's management, players and other officials, as well as the fans, Supporters Club and other stakeholders deserve praise for their support."
He however reminded all concerned that there was still more work to be done to achieve the set objective. "Our set objective is returning at the end of this season to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), and there is still a lot to do to get there. So, we must ensure all hands are on deck for this."
Bashir, in the statement, reported that Kwara United started the game well, keeping the home side at bay and forcing host goalkeeper Nura Mohammed to make some good saves. The pressure on FC Zamfara yielded result in the 24th minute, when Yusuf Abubakar's cross was diverted into the net by Segun Alebiosu.
"The goal might have woken up FC Zamfara from their slumber, as they pushed hard for the equaliser, relying much on their fans' harassment of Kwara United FC. "For example, the fans ran into the pitch immediately after the half time whistle.
"hey held the match officials and our players and officials hostage for close to 40 minutes, thus delaying the resumption of the second half by 24 minutes. "But the pressure and harassment reduced a bit after they got the equaliser just three minutes into the second half.
"hereafter, the two teams struggled to get the winning goal without success, with goalkeeper Ismaila Shagari's brilliance making the difference for us," Bashir said in the statement. NAN reports that, with the draw, Kwara United now have 14 points from seven matches as the first round of the abridged 2015/2016 NNL ends.
NAN also reports that the match was played at the Sardauna Memorial Stadium in Gusau.(NAN)
