Gov Ahmed Approves Release of N7.9m to Best KWASU Graduate
Muhammed, who graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.96 out of 4.00 from the Department of Microbiology, had in 2014 got a sum of N1.650m from the state government as part of the scholarship award.
The State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Aminat Ahmed made this disclosure on Thursday during a Ministerial Press Briefing where she gave an account of her ministry's activities for the past one year.
Dr. Ahmed revealed that a sum of N1.8 billion has been set aside by the state government in the 2016 fiscal year to execute various capital projects across academic institutions in the State based on their needs assessment.
She added that another N2 billion was set aside for the construction of two campuses of KWASU in Osi and Ilesha Baruba as well as the establishment of School of Governance and Administration at the institution's main campus in Malete.
The Commissioner disclosed that Governor Ahmed had earlier in the year approved the release of N181, 404, 228.06 for the ongoing construction of Engineering complex at KWASU and another N60, 000, 000 for the accreditation of 8 engineering courses at the school.
In addition, she said that the State government also released the sum of N107, 434, 799.20 for the renovation of School of Midwifery at the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Ilorin in preparation for the reaccreditation of the school.
Dr. Ahmed also noted that another sum of N10 million was released to prepare the School of Nursing, Ilorin to meet the accreditation standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
While reiterating the commitment of the state government to ensuring that all academic courses run in various tertiary institutions across the State are accredited, the Commissioner announced that the College of Health Technology, Offa is also preparing to invite the National Board for Technical Education for accreditation of six of its courses.
According to her, the graduating students of the College will be enlisted for the one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
