Kwara assembly supports state's education reforms

Date: 2016-04-25

Kwara State House of Assembly will provide  necessary legal backing to the state’s education reform agenda in order to justify huge funds invested in their education sector.

Speaker of the House Ali Ahmad gave this assurance in his Ilorin office, while receiving the Kwara State team of Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESPIN).

Ahmad said the proposed law would enumerate roles of all stakeholders with a view to ensuring that they perform optimally to raise Kwara State’s standard of education.

He also said the need to enact the law became imperative due to the strategic role education plays in ensuring socio-economic and political emancipation of any society.

Ahmad praised ESPIN for the  tremendous support it provides to the education sector in Kwara State for the past 6 years- providing access to quality education for all.

The Speaker, represented by Chairman House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development Mr. Adebayo Mohammed noted with delight that ESPIN had made significant impact in the educational sector in the State, through its funding, innovative approach, monitoring mechanism and social mobilisation and called for the sustainance of its programmes in the State.

Ahmad equally assured that the 8th Legislature under his watch would continue to strengthen its oversight function to ensure that all investment in the sector was justified for the benefit of all in the State.

Earlier,Team Leader of ESPIN in the State,Mr James Fadukun had expressed delight that the government had demonstrated passion for the development of education in the state but enumerared further steps needed to be taken by the State government to fast track the development of education in the State.

He said ESPIN moved into the state in 2008 to support the state Government in achieving its reform agenda in the educational sector and would be rounding up in January next year.

Fadukun also counselled the state government on how to explore the potentials of international donor agencies in ensuring accelerated development of the State and praised the state assembly for its commitment in ensuring proper oversight of the education sector.
