Kwara decries low allocation, to boost IGR
KWARA State government has said it would embark on aggressive efforts to shore up Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to bridge the financial gap due to the drop in expected allocations.
The government however, assured that despite the significant drop in federal allocations to the state this month, the state's Commissioner for Finance, Demola Banu, said the state would not neglect its responsibilities to the citizens.
Speaking in Ilorin, the state capital at the weekend, Banu said: "Though the drop is significant, the government would try all its best to meet up with its responsibilities, especially to the citizens. The IGR would be boosted as a way out. But let all the citizens be patriotic enough, doing their own part towards making governance a worthwhile endeavour."
According to Banu, Kwara State received a total sum of N1.815 billion from the federation account, representing a decrease of N55,901, 721.84 from the N1.870 billion it received in January and almost half of the N3.4 billion it usually receives.
Giving a breakdown, Banu said the state government got a statutory revenue allocation (SRA) of N1,139,808, 900.04; VAT -N656,252,713.98 and exchange difference of N18,952,269.75.
