ABS threaten to pull out of Nigeria Premier League
The Ilorin club is not happy with the decision to replay the game against the Akure side ...
Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club has appealed against the decision of the Organising and Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation which called for the re-play of the Week 12 Premier League match against Sunshine Stars.
Sunshine Stars failed to honour the match despite Nigeria Premier League’s decision that it should hold on Wednesday March 21 in Ilorin claming that they have been scheduled to travel to Angola for a continental match the next day, which prompted the league body to award three goals and three points to the Ilorin side.
The O & D ordered a re-play after Sunshine Stars appealed the decision because they claimed if they played the match, they would miss their flight to Luanda where they were scheduled to take on Recreativo Libolo in the Caf Champions League.
ABS Team Manager Alloy Chukwuemeka described the decision by the O & D as unjust.
‘The walk-over was performed according to NPL Rules and Regulations, by the officials posted by the NPL to officiate the match, and up till the last minute, there was no communication from either the NPL or Suinshine Stars FC that the match will be re-scheduled.
"Re-playing the match will amount to punishing us for the offence we did not commit," he averred. "We have appealed the judgment, and if it doesn’t end in our favour, it would make us to pull out of the league.
"We have rules, and the rules must be followed. It must not be interpreted in a way that they will use it to frustrate one team against the other.
"As at that time they need to honour the match, they were not the only team playing in the continent. Why should their own be different? They claimed that they requested for a shift in date. But the request was not approved to the best of my knowledge. These are some of the issues that the O & D failed to address.
"As far as we are concerned, we did not run foul of any of the rules and regulations of the NPL on our way to earning the three points and three goals in the match, and same should be returned to us accordingly,"Chuwkuemeka concluded.
ABS are placed 11th on the league table with 43 points.
