Health workers in Kwara LGs suspend strike
Health workers in all Local Government Areas of Kwara State under the aegis of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) have suspended the strike embarked upon by the Union over salary arrears.
The Union said it considered the declined in Federal Allocation to States in the country as well as the intervention of all traditional rulers led by the Emir of Ilorin, Dr Alhaji Zulu Gambari as part of reasons for suspending the industrial action.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman and Acting State Secretary of the Union Comrade Muritala Olayinka and Comrade Amos Semari a copy made Available to National Pilot on Wednesday in Ilorin. According to the statement, the Union urged the state government to honor the agreement reached with them.
"Arising from the State Administration Council(SAC) and State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of MHWUN held on 8th February 2016 agree thus: that the Union observed, that there is decline in the Federal Allocation to States in the Country and also considering the intervention of all Traditional rulers headed by the Emir of Ilorin Dr Alhaji Zulu Gambari coupled with the hardship being experienced by the poor masses due to the strike embarked upon by our Union, Medical and Health Workers Union Of Nigeria in the Local Government, we here by suspend the ongoing Strike action," the statement said.
It added that: "The Union hopes that the Kwara State government will honor the agreement reached with our Union."
