Groups Laud Atunwa's Appointment as Justice Committee Charman

Following the appointment of Rt Hon Razak Atunwa as the Chairman of House Committee on Justice by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, some Nigerians under different civil brackets have described his appointment as a square peg in a square hole.

Speaking in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, the chairperson of Nigerian Women Solidarity for Justice (NWSJ), Hajia Aishat Aliyu said with the reputation and performance track records of Rt. Hon Razak Atunwa, in maintaining justice and unprecedented growth in legal reforms as lawmaker and Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Atunwa is a rare gift that will reform the justice system through his position.

In a similar development, Dr Emeka Chukwudi who spoke under the aegis of Advocacy for Justice and Equity in Nigeria said the role of justice in economic, political and social development of any nation cannot be over-emphasized. He said the slow pace of development over the years cannot be disconnected from the poor justice system. He then, expressed confidence in the chairmanship of Hon Atunwa over the House Committee on Justice, stating that Atunwa will transform Nigeria's Justice system with his wealth of experience.

More also, the Convener of Justice Against Rape in Nigeria, Mrs Omotayo Oluwole said she was delighted over the appointment of Hon Atunwa as the chairman of House Committee on Justice. Omotayo expressed readiness to work the Committee and the law enforcement agencies in the fight against rape in Nigeria. She called on more strict consequences against rapists in Nigeria.

The Director of the educational NGO, Education for All Children said the appointment of Rt Hon Atunwa is a perfect antidote for the mess in the nation's Justice system. Taking a clue from law reforms by Rt. Hon Atunwa while serving as Speaker of Kwara Assembly, she urged the Lawmaker to ensure Justice for children against all forms of abuse is achieved to safeguard the right of our children.
