How Saraki's purported attempt to halt assets declaration trial was scuttled
Saraki had initially sought an injunction to stop his trial at the CCT, but the Court of Appeal, failed to rule on the suit on Monday, October 19.
According to Sahara Reporters, the Senate President tried to get the false assets declaration trial, halted by another court.
The report states that the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Ibrahim Auta, colluded with Saraki to secure a court order to this effect.
Justice Auta was said to have traveled to Lagos to supervise the process of obtaining the court order, but a lawyer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was said to have been alerted of the plot.
The case was reportedly assigned by Justice Auta to Justice Ibrahim Buba.
The report further states that Buba was ready to grant the injunction ordering the Code of Conduct Tribunal to stop Senator Saraki’s trial, when the EFCC lawyer appeared in court.
The EFCC lawyer purportedly told Justice Buba that the defendants in the matter, were not served the notice, and as such, prayed on him not to grant any orders.
Consequently, Justice Buba adjourned the case till November 2, and instructed Saraki’s lawyers to notify the other defendants.
