Sultan supports ongoing anti-graft war, tasks women on girl-child education
Alhaji Abubakar stated this at the Formal opening ceremony of the thirtieth Annual National Conference of the Federation of Muslim Women's Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) held at the University of Ilorin, Kwara state capital, North Central Nigeria.
The Sultan of Sokoto who is also the President, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs specifically tasked Muslim women to key into the fight against corruption by rejecting stolen money from their husbands who are public office holders.
He also challenged wives of state governors and emirs to lead the campaign for girl- child education and tasked the womenfolk to make their numerical strength count in the governing process.
"Women must discuss corruption and ask questions from their husbands about their ill gotten wealth especially from those who are public office holders."
"As women, you must add your voice to issues affecting our country, formulate policies where anyone seeking public office must listen to you even if they don't like it," he stated.
He said if Nigeria is to see the change its citizens have been yearning for, women must start the crusade against corruption right from home, while Nigerians must be ready to be the change they voted for during the last presidential election.
The Sultan therefore encouraged Muslim women to make themselves relevant by lending their voices to national issues.
The Sultan spoke on "Motherhood and Leadership" at the formal opening of the 30th annual national conference of the Federation of Muslim Women's Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) in Ilorin.
