Man impersonates NDLEA for 3 years
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kwara state has arrested a 36-year old man who had allegedly been parading himself as official of the agency for the past three years.
The accused person identified as Samuel Alhaji Yawo, it was learnt, hails from Jagba Local government area of Kaduna state.
He was arrested in Jebba Area Command of the agency, before he was transferred to the state headquarters in Ilorin.
Parading the suspect and other seizures made by the agency, the NDLEA commander, Reuben Apeh, explained that Yawo had been extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public, using fake identity card, allegedly procured fraudulently.
He said the command made a total seizure of 1.9 million kilogrammes of hard drugs from January to May 2015, while 64 suspects comprising 54 males and 10 females were arrested within the period.
Apeh added that on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at about 12 midnight, a seizure of 1,076 kilogramme of cannabis with a truck loaded with 131 bags of cannabis sativa was recorded.
He described the seizure as very disturbing and a very bad signal to inhabitants of the state, adding that activities of drug peddlers had become so "alarming, and increasingly becoming sophisticated among the younger segments of the state population."
"Drug joints are all over the nook and cranny of the state, and our youth are deeply involved but the officers and men of the agency are ever ready to fight this war and win; to make the state free from the grip and scourge of drug merchants in the state," the NDLEA boss said.
