Why I supported Saraki to emerge Senate President -Ondo senator Alasoadura
The senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Tayo Alasoadura, recently disclosed that the major reason behind his dogged support of Bukola Saraki's emergence as Senate President was because he was a man of great courage.
Alasoadura was the was the only senator elected on the APC platform from the south west that reportedly voted against the party's decision to have Saraki's opponent- Ahmed Lawan emerge as the Senate President.
His decision was heavily criticized by his colleagues who referred to him as 'anti-party and odd.'
The Ondo senator, who is a former commissioner for finance in the state, had emphasized that he had carried out his own research and had come up with facts backing up his decision.
The senator stated that Saraki was a man he could vouch for. "He who comes to equity must come with clean hands and clear conscience", he said.
Alasoadura emphasized that Saraki was the one he perceived to have enough courage to expose corrupt individuals in politics, a rare quality his opponent did not possess.
"I supported a man who had the courage to expose those who are milking Nigeria dry in form of oil subsidy while the person the others were supporting didn't see anything wrong with the finances of Nigeria for the 8 years when he was the chairman of the PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE of the Senate", he said.
It could be recalled that at the time of the senate presidential election, only a few leaders of the party at the local government areas within the central senatorial district have rose in defence of Alasoadura for backing Saraki.
The senator added that he was least bordered at that time because the majority are not always right and he was not afraid to stand up for what was right- Bukola Saraki becoming Senate President.
"One of the things I have come to learn in life is that the majority are many times wrong in their judgement and this is what is called the Tyranny of the majority", the senator added.
During party deliberations on 'who will emerge senate president?', two leaders (Saka Yussuf Ogunleye and Ojo Adegbola) were however suspended by the Chairman of the party in Akure North Local Government, Eleti Joshua, for criticizing the action of senator Alasoadura.
