Senate Presidency: Ondo APC wants Saraki, others sanctioned
The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has called on the party’s national working committee to sanction the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and his colleagues for defying the party on the zoning of the leadership positions of the National Assembly.
The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Omo’ba Adesanya, said on Tuesday that the conduct of Mr. Saraki and his colleagues leading to his emergence as Senate President was an anti-party conduct.
He said the act was in disregard to party directives and a violation of relevant sections of the party’s constitution.
“For deterrence and to prove that nobody is bigger than the Party, and that the Party is supreme to all members, no matter their status, Senator Bukola Saraki and his loyal APC Senators should be sanctioned according to the spirit and letters of the Party’s constitution,” the statement said.
Mr. Adesanya also argued that the mock election which endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as leaders of the two chambers respectively was supervised by the National Working Committee of the Party and so should have been respected by all.
“The action of the eight (8) APC Senators led by Bukola Saraki, has brought the Party to public odium and disrepute, and it is a clear violation of the Party’s rules, regulations and constitution,” he said.
According to him, Mr. Saraki and his supporters violated Article 9:2 of the Party’s constitution, under Rules and Obligations, which states that, “members of the Party shall be obliged to affirm the Party’s aims and objectives and conduct themselves in a manner that shall not bring the Party to public odium and disrepute. Members of the Party shall also observe the rules and regulations embedded in this constitution.”
Mr. Adesanya further stated that Article 21 which deals with Discipline of Party Members clearly depicted Mr. Saraki’s action as anti-party and required the application of the specified penalties.
Mr. Adesanya noted that APC in Ondo State was concerned about Saraki’s “unholy alliance” with the PDP, a step, he said could compromised the “change agenda.”
