N/Central group wants warring senators to sheath swords

Date: 2015-06-16

A coalition of people residing in the North Central Zone have appealed to warring senators in the National Assembly to sheath their swords and reconcile in order to enhance the country's development.

The group, North Central Peoples Development Initiative, in a joint statement released in Abuja and signed by its national president, Abdulmalik Isah Abdullahi Ilyasu, and secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Ado Ilyasu , said the victory of Senator Bukola Saraki is an affirmation of the confidence reposed in the region. He said the lawmakers should embrace the new face of change for the reconciliation and development of Nigeria.

"More importantly the Senate Unity Group led by our son, an elder statesman, Sen. Barnabas Gemade, should kindly toe the line of reconciliation and give all the necessary support to the new Senate president," he said.

He said the warring parties should toe the path of Sen. David Mark, "who played a fatherly role by ensuring that the position of Senate president remains in the North Central Zone."

The group said any attempt to undermine the person of Sen. Bukola Saraki by not recognising him as Senate president is invalid while he said further attempts would be resisted.

He said anybody that has contrary views should follow proper channel rather than grandstanding.

The group further demanded that the positions of Senate Majority and Minority Leader and Chief Whip of House of Representative should be given to the North Central Zone.
