Varsity Hosts Building Bridges Conference

University of Ilorin, where meeting was held by the National Executive Council (NEC). A one day conference tagged "Building Bridges Conference" has been scheduled to hold on June 4, 2015 at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, under the auspices of the Building Bridges Project In Nigeria.

The Project was officially launched on February 5 at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN ) in NewYork, USA with representatives of UN Women, the UN Focal Point on Youth, as well as H.E. Mr. Karel van Oosterom, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the UN in attendance.

According to the information made available to The Guardian in Umuahia, Abia State by one of the scheduled Conference Speakers, Mr. Henry Ekwuruke, the goal of the project is to gather as much information as possible on how young people in Nigeria could envision the world in 2030 and what is important to them.

Others are to know the challenges to overcome to make this country and the world at large, a safer, more inclusive and better place while focusing on the Post 2015 development agenda.

It was also gathered that the outcomes of the conference in which over 1000 participants, especially youths in various disciplines and cultures from all over Nigeria who seek a deeper understanding on the Post-2015 development agenda are expected, will be presented to the UN during the high level post-2015 summit in September 2015 in New York.

"This will help in building a clearing house of free knowledge from the nation's most inspired thinkers and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas on the Post-2015 agenda especially on gender equality and good governance."

he conference themed: " Change The World: Nigeria Youths In A Post 2015 World", will feature discussions and lectures on Gender Equality and Good Governance, among others.

According to the conference flyer, "youths that are directly affected by poverty, inequality and bad governance will lead the articulation of a post-2015 development agenda, which will provide a platform to amplify the voices of people directly affected by poverty and injustice and their perspectives on the future global framework we need".

It would also build a shared global vision for the future of people and the planet, clear strategies that can be employed at local, national, sectorial and regional levels and influence national governments and intergovernmental processes to align with the aspirations of civil society for a post-2015 agenda and hold actors accountable for their commitments.
