Petrol sells for N100 per litre in Kwara
A litre of petrol is still being sold for N100 in Ilorin and towns in Kwara State.
Punch correspondent, who monitored the situation in Ilorin on Thursday, observed that some filling stations remained shut, with the attendants claiming that they had no petrol for sale.
Many buyers of the products had complained that despite assurances from the government that the product would be sold at the official price of N87 per litre, they were still buying it for N100.
A motorists at Tanke area of Ilorin, Mr. Alphonsus Dimkpa, said it was surprising to him that petrol was being sold at such an exorbitant price.
"I do not know what is happening in this town. We were told that the government had insisted that a litre of petrol must be sold at N87 per litre, which is the official price, but we are still buying at N100 per litre. This is unfair," he said.
The Kwara State Controller of Operations, Department of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Amos Jokodola, said the agency would ensure that filling stations selling the product above the official price were penalised.
He said the DPR had shut many filling stations that did not comply with the government's directive.
"These unscrupulous marketers shall be brought to book. My officers have gone out for surveillance," Jokodola said.
