Date: 2015-03-27

Ahead of tomorrow's presidential election, special prayers have been held in Kwara State for the smooth conduct of the polls across the country.

The prayer, which was organised at the instance of state chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the state Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, held at Cathedral of United Missionary Church of Africa Theological College, Ilorin, on Wednesday was attended by the state Deputy Governor, Elder Peter Kisira; wife of the state Governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, Deputy Governor's wife, Mrs Felicia Kisira, top government officials, traditional rulers, clerics and people from all walks of life.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Deputy Governor, Timothy Nathaniel, said the prayer was convened to seek divine intervention against forces inimical to the success of the polls as well as renew spirit of commitment for the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain focused in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.

The state deputy governor expressed gratitude to God and the people of the state for their support and prayers, which had enabled government to surmount the challenges of good governance.

Kisira urged the people not to rest on their oars as the nation passes through a trying period with optimism that God desire would prevail.

In his sermon, the Provost of United Missionary Church of Africa Theological College, Ilorin, Rev Peter Awojobi, asked Nigerians to be conscious of God Almighty as election period gathers momentum.

He warned Christians to desist from acts contrary to the will of God to avoid His wrath.

The wife of the state Governor, Mrs Ahmed had taken the only lesson of the service from the book of first Timothy.
