Glo League - Teams Are Impressive Says LMC
Even though Kwara United of Ilorin picked up just a point off their match with Wikki Tourists FC in the 1-1 week three match, a top official of the club appears to be happy at the outcome.
The match was one of the week three matches of the ongoing Globacom Premier League.
Coach Haruna Megidensanma of Kwara United had hailed his team, saying it was a good start for a club that had just re-joined the elite division.
The club was newly promoted to the elite division, after a season's stint in the lower division - the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
According to him, with a win from week two and the drawn game against Wikki, and occupying the fifth spot on the log, we are not doing badly.
"I think our fans should expect better performance as the competition progresses," the coach re-assured.
However, one of the star matches played on March 22 (Sunday) lived up to the top billing as teams posted an interesting result.
Heartland of Owerri overcame initial tough resistance to hammer Nasarawa United of Lafia 5-2.
The match, which was played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, was initially predicted to be a tough encounter going by the previous meetings by both sides but from the high score line from the home team, it was on paper an easy match up.
Kelechi Emetiole, an elated coach of the 'Naze Millionaires' as Heartland is known said after the match that the victory was a good win for his team.
"I am impressed at the performance of the boys. I am glad we won the game, especially on home soil. We played our best.
"I believe my boys listened to my instructions. Our opponents gave us initial tough time, as they played with so much zeal.
"We hope to make more progress in our next match. We will try to work on our mistakes in order to be able to stay on top of the table," he said.
However, Baba Ganaru, the newly engaged coach of United said he was not pleased with the results of the match saying, "we gave up on our hopes too early.
"We will not give up in the struggle to the top as we will get back to work on our mistakes and come back better," he vowed.
In other matches of week three were El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri defeated Abia Warriors of Umuahia, 3-1, while Enyimba of Aba defeated Bayelsa United of Yenagoa, 1-0.
Taraba drew with Lobi Stars of Makurdi while Sharks of Port Harcourt defeated Akwa United of Uyo, 1-0.
Giwa FC of Jos outplayed Sunshine Stars of Akure, 1-0 while Garbos of Nnewi beat Rangers of Enugu 1-0.
Meanwhile, one of the consultants to the League Management Company (LMC), Harry Iwuala, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), while assessing the performance of teams so far, that clubs had been impressive.
"Even though, it is early in the day, but really teams have been scoring goals since the start of the season.
"They have all strived to score goals and there are not many complaints about officiating so far. So far many of the venues from reports have recorded more fans than previously.
"I guess as the season goes on, we shall be more definitive in assessing the league," Iwuala said.
