KWSG distributes taxis and buses
The State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed in his speech at the occasion said it was in realization that the informal sector remained crucial to economic growth of the state, upscaling life quality of millions of people dependent on that sector of the economy that the scheme was been implemented.
Dr Ahmed noted that the state government's entrepreneurship scheme flagged off in 2012 with the disbursement of N250m through cooperative societies is putting the informal sector on a sound footing in the State.
"This N75m empowerment scheme for transporters adds to the list of life transforming programmes by this administration in nearly four years.
Our earlier interventions include the disbursement of N250m to multi-purpose cooperatives, the provision of N150m to Kwara State Artisans Congress, N100m for market men and women N215m to outgrower farmers, the ongoing disbursement of N2b in micro credit to other small business owners as well as the provision of 10,200 youth jobs"; the Governor emphasised.
The Governor said in almost four years his administration has fulfilled its covenant with the people of the state by ensuring life transforming programmes, non existence of abandoned programmes and initiation of ground breaking programmes.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji AbdulRasheed Ariyo expressed appreciation of beneficiaries to the State government for initiating what he called "life changing programmes in the State".
Alhaji Ariyo promised that the beneficiaries would not default in the repayment of the loans so that others could benefit from the scheme.
