Kwara Traditional Council calls for comprehensive approach to security

Date: 2015-03-05

The Kwara State Traditional Council has called for a more comprehensive approach to the provision of security in the state and across the country.

This was contained in a communiqué issued after a one-day conference organised by the Council in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, North Central Nigeria on the security situation in the state and the country.

The communiqué, jointly signed by the programme Coordinator, Prof Badmus Yusuf and Secretary, Alhaji S.A Lawal also called for provision of necessary funding for the Council to aid its effort to maintain peace and tranquility in the state.

It also charged politicians and their supporters to avoid acts capable of overheating the polity, before, during and after the general elections.

The influx of people of questionable character into the State should be a source of concern, hence urgent steps must be intensified by government to nip any unforeseen contingency in the bud, the communiqué read.

The Council also implored government to initiate concerted effort to impact positively on the people's standard of living, while the political class must as a matter of importance ensure good governance devoid of corrupt practices.

It also advised religious leaders to avoid provocative utterances that could create chaos in the society, while all stakeholders must rise to the challenge of making the society a secure and better place for all.

Voice of Nigeria in Correspondent in Kwara reports that the conference had in attendance the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari and traditional rulers from various communities in the state, with paper presentations from academics and security experts.
