Date: 2015-01-29

The Ilorin International Airport recorded a total number of 63,441 passengers and 3,132 aircraft landings in the out-gone 2014.

The Manager of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Ilorin Airport, Alhaji Abubakar Bibi, disclosed this while speaking with Daily Trust in Ilorin.

Our correspondent reports that two commercial airlines, Overland and Arik currently operate local flights from Ilorin to Lagos and Abuja.

The Airport Manager, who was deployed to the state two months ago, said the record is a sign of growth and expansion of the airport and the state at large.

He said, “We recorded 63,441 passengers and 3,132 landings of aircraft for the 2014 year. This number signifies growth at the airport and the state by extension. It means a lot of people are trooping into the state for business and official activities when compared to previous years.”

According to him, the peaceful atmosphere in Ilorin has also combined to improve the clientele of the airport and the successes achieved last year.

Bibi urged both passengers and airliners travelling and operating en-route Ilorin to cooperate with the airport management to maintain the successes achieved so far especially in terms of safety.

He said, “We want our passengers and airliners within Ilorin axis to cooperate with the security agencies and officers at the airport as their safety is our target.”

According to him, the management will continue to support any development aimed at transforming the airport to world standard.
