Kwara PDP Elders, Guber Aspirants Approve Primary Election Result
The Elders Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State and the governorship Aspirants who participated in last Friday governorship primary of the party have expressed confidence in the election that ushered in the governorship candidate of the party for the 2015 election, Senator Simeon Sule Ajibola.
Both the PDP Elders and the governorship aspirants in separate press statements issued in Ilorin Tuesday said that they had confidence in the governorship primary election conducted by the National Secretariat of PDP and supervised by a committee headed by the Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswan.
The Elders committee in a statement signed by it Chairman, Senator Haliru Idris, after its meeting held in the house of Chief Joel Ogundeji, the former Deputy Governor of the state said that Governor Suswan and his team, who came to Kwara State, conducted a successful free, transparent and fair gubernatorial primary election which produced Senator Ajibola.
"The statement read thus: "We the entire members of the Elders' Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State (Article 23.1 of the party's constitution) wish to thank the party's leadership for sending the caliber of His Excellency, Gabriel Suswan, the Executive Governor of Benue State and his team who came to Kwara State and conducted a successful, free, transparent and fair gubernatorial primary election in the state, that produced Senator Simeon Sule Ajibola.
"The Elders wish to assure the party that we shall do our utmost best to put all hands on deck to see that the party succeed in the forthcoming general elections. We wish also to seize this opportunity to express our hope that the party on its part will complement our efforts with its own collateral contributions for total success."
The Kwara PDP Gubernatorial aspirants who participated in the governorship primary election in their own statement signed by Dr John Dara said that they accept the emergence of Senator Ajibola as the PDP Gubernatorial candidate as "we agree that the primary election was free,transparent and acceptable to all of us."
The statement read thus: "Kwara State PDP Gubernatorial Aspirants who participated in the recently conclude gubernatorial primaries met on Sunday, 14th December,2014 at the residence of Prof. S. Oba AbdulRaheem to review the state of affairs of PDP in Kwara State, especially since the conclusion of the PDP gubernatorial primary election. It was agreed that the primary election was free, transparent and acceptable to all of us. We therefore accept the emergence of Sen.Simeon Ajibola as the Kwara State PDP Gubernatorial candidate.
"We resolved to remain united and to do our best for the electoral victory of our governorship candidate and all other candidates of the party in the coming 2015 Elections.
"We call on the party leadership in the state to set up a reconciliation committee to bring all the aggrieved members on board to ensure the victory of the party in the coming elections. Sen. Simeon Ajibola, the Governorship candidate should as a matter of urgency, reach out to all stakeholders to further enhance our unity.
"We also appeal to all PDP members in the state to close ranks and prepare for the challenge of winning the coming elections. An all inclusive campaign structure must be put in place to effectively mobilise all party faithful and the general public for the elections."
