Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed commissions 28th LEAH Cancer Centre
Wife of the Kwara State Governor and founder of LEAH Foundation, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, has commissioned another LEAH breast and cervical screening centre at Okuta, Baruten Local Government Area, making it the 28th in the state.
Mrs. Ahmed commissioned the centre during her special women empowerment programme for the people of the local government.
She advised the women to take advantage of the centre to periodically check their breast and cervical status, adding that cancer is not a disease meant for any particular social class.
Further, the founder of LEAH foundation enjoined beneficiaries of the empowerment intervention to make the best use of the items given to them to boost their business even as she prayed for God's guidance.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman, Baruten Local Government, Alhaji Mohammed Omar Bio, commented Mrs. Ahmed's efforts in the areas of basic health service delivery including free drugs, eye glasses and medical treatment through the LEAH clinic-on-wheels.
According to him, the LEAH empowerment scheme has transferred the lives of women and improved the living condition of people in the state.
He appealed to Kwarans to see the empowerment scheme as a step towards the improvement of the economic situation of the people and reciprocate the gesture by working hard.
Some of the empowerment items distributed included generators, sewing machines, hair dryers, textile materials and grinding machines among others.
The first lady also visited the Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Idris Abubakar at his palace amidst cultural performances.
