In an attempt to check occurrences of flood disaster in Ilorin metropolis, the Kwara State government has commenced the expansion of roadside drains.

Speaking during an inspection visit to some of the project sites like Balogun Filani road, the state Commissioner for Environment and Forestry , Chief Samuel Bamisaye, directed the contractor to ensure that the people who may be affected by the drainage expansion were duly notified.

It was gathered that some of the structures that would give way for the expansion were already marked.

The commissioner, who addressed the people of the area and the contractor through the Director of Personnel Finance and Supply in the ministry. Mr. Kayode Adekeye, said that government would do everything possible to ensure that the project was done according to specification.

Responding, the representatives of the community, Alhaji Abdulrasak Yahaya and Alhaja Simbiat Abdullahi, thanked the state government for the project, even as they pledged the community's support to the present state government.

They also said that the project was long expected in the area because it was always flooded during the raining season.
