Liaison officers charged to be eyes of Kwara govt

Date: 2012-01-30

Government Liaison officers in Kwara State have been charged to always be the ears and eyes of government in their respective councils.

This became necessary following the security challenges facing the country, particularly in some parts of the North.

Secretary to Government of Kwara State, Alhaji Sola Isiaka Gold, gave the charge while declaring open a one-day interactive session organized for the liaison officers in the state, held at the Conference Room of Governor's Office, Ilorin, recently.

According to him, the security situation in the country calls for a lot of concern and proactive action on the part of all stakeholders.

"Even though Kwara State is a State of Harmony, Peace and Hospitality, the happenings in our environment called for caution and preparedness to face ensuing challenges", he said.

The SSG noted that the ultimate goal of any administration to entrench good governance on the polity for the welfare and wellbeing of the citizenry.

He said this can be easily attained through a clear understanding of the policy thrusts of the administration, budgetary provisions, which he said, "constitutes the viable instrument for their realization, as well as team building which represents the cornerstone for positive attainment".

He, therefore, enjoined the participants to utilize the opportunities presented by the interactive session with a view to getting at what it takes to deliver the dividends of democracy, expressing confidence in the ability of the resource persons to handle the topic satisfactorily.

Earlier, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Governmental (Local), Alhaji Aro Yahayah, had said the programme was organised to prepare the Los and other stakeholders for future challenges and better performance.

Yahayah added that government had become a serious business, therefore, government programmes must be executed properly to get value for money and improve the wellbeing of the citizenry.

He said in order to ensure continuity of knowledge acquisition of the liaison officers and other stakeholders, the programme  would be a continuous exercise.

In his paper entitled "Current policy thrust of Kwara State as it relates to real development," the Commissioner Commerce and Cooperatives, Alhaji Saka Onimago, said "development and progress can only be achieved if we all join hands with the state government to foster peace and perform our roles as each policy thrust relates to us."

In his own presentation entitled "Team building as a strategic tool for good governance/better performance," the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr Leke Ogungbe, advised the liaison officers not to deceive the governor but give adequate and correct information that would help the state to move forward.
