Kwara assures parents on schools hand over
The Kwara State government yesterday assured parents that the planned hand over of faith-based/ community-based schools to interested owners would not jeopardize the education of their wards and children.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed said prior to the handing over of the schools, government would set up assets and liability committee towards ensuring a seamless transition.
There has been controversy in the state over some missionary schools being supported by government with Christians protesting that it should hands off from running of the schools.
Reacting to the protest, the governor said government will hand over the schools after repeal of the 2006 Education Bill, which is currently before the House of Assembly.
Speaking yesterday, Ahmed said the issue had no religious colouration contrary to insinuations.
He said the schools involved are owned by faith-based organisations, communities and individuals, noting that proprietors who want to take back their schools would have them.
This, he however added, would be done in such a way that it would not disrupt the students' education.
