Ahmed angry over FGs abandonment of federal roads in Kwara

Date: 2014-10-22

Kwara state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed Tuesday expressed deep sheathed anger over the federal government's refusal to repair federal roads lying across the state in the last ten years even as he appealed for the reimbursement of the sum of N2.3billion debt allegedly owed the state on the reconstruction of Ilesha- Baruba- Kosubosu road in the state.

The governor noted that in as much as the government is willing to repair all the federal roads in the state because of their economic importance to the people, the government is being largely constrained by the dwindling monthly allocations from the federal government and its refusal to even repay the federal road repaired by the state government.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed who spoke at his monthly personality programme tagged,"Governor's Explains" in Ilorin said,"it is unfortunate that the federal government has refused to rehabilitate all the federal roads projects across the state in the last ten years.

"Even, with the poor monthly federal allocation that the Kwara get, we managed to repair Ilesa-Baruba- Kosubosu road and up till this moment, federal govern$ent has refused to reimbursed us the sum of over N2.3billion committed to the road and unfortunately the non payment of the debt has continued to have negative effect on the economy of the state in view of the dwindling federal revenue allocations to the state."

Despite the unpleasant development,Governor Ahmed hinted that, the state government would soon commence the rehabilitation of Kaima- Kisi and Gwanara roads leading to the Nigeria border of Contonou that connect the state as soon as the current rainfalls subsist.

The governor explained that the need for the rehabilitation of the federal road became necessary in order to ease the living condition of people of the area and most importantly facilitate the economic prosperity of the area.

On the allegation that the state is the least paid workers in the country, the governor described the allegation as false saying that,"Kwara state is one of the states in the federation that paid good workers salaries and even respond to their welfares as at when due even more than the states that get fat monthly allocations".

He recalled that,"Even, when the issue of the payment of new minimum wage of N18,000 was a subject of controversy in the country, Kwara state remain one of the first set of the state in the federation that paid it to its teeming workers without any hindrance despite the low federal revenue accrued to the state".

He also said that, his administration doesn't play politics with workers salaries hence it has made workers issues in the state a main priority by ensuring the payment of their annual and leave allowances and gratuity so as to make life more bearable to them.

On his recent endorsement by the political leader of All Progressives Congress(APC) Senator Bukola Saraki for 2015 elections, governor Ahmed assured that if re elected,he would further take the state to a higher pedestal of development that would be admired by the stakeholders.
