Kwara First Lady charges women on positive change

Date: 2014-10-15

Wife of the Kwara State governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, has charged women to not go for just any type of change, but a positive change which aims at dealing with situations to produce a successful result.

She said, "in times like this when insecurity of lives and properties are threatened, when our daughters need extra vigilance against kidnapping and molestation, when the love of many for Christ are waxing cold, when the pleasure of life is drawing men away from God, when immorality stares even the saints in the face, when violence are found on our streets and when compromise has entered the church, we need to resolve in our hearts to be resolute, so that we can be an agent of change in the Church and the nation".

Mrs. Ahmed gave the charge while delivering her keynote address at the 22nd annual congress of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Kwara State chapter, held at 2nd ECWA Amilegbe, Ilorin.

According to her, "for a woman to be an agent of change, she must be strong spiritually, receiving strength, grace, help and mercy from God for success in her several endeavours".

She therefore enjoined women at every level to allow the society feel their positive impact, particularly in the face of contradictory challenges, adding, "a woman as an agent of change has been strategically positioned in a place to represent, not her selfish interest, but the interest of others who may be unseen and unheard".

While commending women all over the world for their determination to attain self actualisation and the leadership of WOWICAN, Kwara State chapter, for organising the conference, the governor's wife implored all not to be passive but to rise and affect positive change everywhere.

In her welcome address, the President of WOWICAN, Kwara State chapter, Prophetess Bosede Adimabua, called on women to make positive impact and contributions aimed at transforming the church and the society.

She said God has given women special abilities and talents to cope with contemporary challenges; hence, women should arise like the biblical Deborah to create positive change by changing their mind set and attitude beginning from the home to the larger society.

Adimabua praised the efforts of Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed in caring for the needy and encouraging women to serve God and prayed God to reward her contributions to humanity, even as she enjoined her to keep up the good work.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of CAN, Kwara State chapter, Professor Timothy O.Opoola, advised that a woman who will bring a change must be fully committed to God above all other things by making God her priority.

He said God will continue to use women to achieve his purpose on earth and bring about the change he desires today, saying, women should strive to be instruments of change in the society.
