Kwara PDP aspirants promise to work together
Governorship aspirants in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State have resolved to close ranks and work together in wresting power from the APC in 2015.
At a consultative meeting hosted by the Freedom Group in Ilorin, major stakeholders agreed that the state should elect leaders, who were competent and capable of running its affairs without prejudice to tribal and religious sentiments.
The group's chairman, Mr Kunle Sulaiman, described the forum as a platform for the PDP to strategise and claim victory from the opposition party and noted that Freedom Group existed to complement the efforts of the party organ in the state.
"Kwara State is in a hurry to develop. We all have a duty to work together, discard religious and ethnic sentiments, so that we can achieve our aim," he told the gathering, which included old and serving senators, legislators and other prominent politicians in PDP.
"PDP must shun personal acrimony to win the battle ahead," he said, just as he described the squabble on party offices in Ilorin West council as a disgrace to the PDP.
Mr Sulaiman urged all aspirants to share ideas, because they were all working to ensure victory for the PDP in the coming election.
"We belong to the same party, we have a common purpose, we should not allow ambition to divide us. We are stronger when we plan and work together," he admonished.
Senator Simeon Ajibola, Kwara South, praised the vision of the Freedom Group and noted that every lover of democracy must share the passion for true freedom in the state.
He said as a member of the vanguard which advocated open and all-inclusive politics and that he supported the intention and objectives of the group.
Another governorship aspirant, Mr Kale Belgore, opined that Kwara is suffering from leadership headache and that the people are expecting the PDP to deliver them from oppressive and bad leadership.
"Unless we cure this headache fast, it may turn to heart attack," he said.
Belgore debunked insinuations that he had any special relationship with former Governor Bukola Saraki, saying he left his administration on personal principles. He said he was prepared to work with other aspirants to ensure victory form the PDP at all times.
