Kwara Plans Sports Endowment Fund
The Kwara State Government is to establish an endowment fund to enable sportsmen and women access grants for training and successful participation in global competitions, the state governor, Dr. Abulfatah Ahmed has said.
Speaking while unveiling the logo of the maiden Kwara Sports Summit, Dr. Ahmed, who said the summit was designed to reposition and revolutionize sports in the state, added that fund would aid Kwara to train world beaters I the various sports.
He believed that sports administrators, technocrats and commentators from across the country would use the summit to brainstorm and fashion a roadmap to robust professional sports in the state.
"It is our believe that this summit will not only harness the great sporting potential available in the state, but also help in identifying modules that could help in driving private sector participation, particularly in the areas of infrastructural development and robust sponsorship," he noted.
The governor also expressed the hope that the summit would come up with programmes that would promote greater youth participation in sports for the state to regain its lost glory in the sector.
The state's Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Prince Saeed Popoola, in his remarks said the summit would provide a template for sports development in the state.
According to Prince Popoola, the summit, which will hold from September 23 to 25, is expected to have in attendance those he referred to as pan Nigerian dignitaries.
