Aremu tells Jonathan to speak up on security, ebola
Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Mr Issa Aremu has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to address the nation on the "deteriorating security situation."
He suggested that the address should be made before the National Assembly, instead of the usual nationwide broadcast. He added that the parliament should also suspend its recess to collectively tackle the national emergencies.
Aremu, who spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State, during a workshop on capacity building and skills development for trade union organisers on Wednesday, said with the worsening insecurity and the Ebola virus, there is a need for the president to update the people on efforts being made to address the crises.
He decried the rate of oil theft in Nigeria, describing it as scandalous. He said the reduction of the rate of theft from 1.2 million barrels per day to 900, 000bpd as announced by the Navy is nothing to celebrate.
The rate of oil theft, he said, points to the country's deteriorating insecurity, adding "it appears the nation's service chiefs are not on duty."
