Road Corps commissions Kwara licensing centre
The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, has restated commitment to the restoration of the integrity of the local driver’s licence.
He stated this at the commissioning of the National Driver’s Licence Centre, Offa in Kwara State.
He said although the journey of the National Union Licensing Scheme, which commenced in 1990 had been tortuous, FRSC remained committed to restoring the integrity of the system.
The Corps Marshal appealed to all stakeholders to join hands to achieve the goal.
He said the implementation of the policy of the National Uniform Licensing Scheme (NULS) was bogged down by certain factors including inadequate investment, inefficient distribution system and non-committal attitudes of some stakeholders.
“These factors gave rise to parallel and fake production of the licences and consequent erosion of the integrity of the system, which led to the reform that culminated in the present licence,” he said.
The Corps Marshal acknowledged the difficulties some prospective applicants faced at the various licensing offices in their quest to undergo biometric data capturing.
He however assured that every effort was being made to decongest the centres and restore public confidence in the system.
“We are conscious of the increase in demand for the licences from prospective applicants who are desirous of following the due process instead of patronising the touts to obtain the licences."
Oyeyemi said the commissioning of the Offa Centre was a further affirmation of the commitment to meeting the demands of the people and dealing with people’s apathy in the system.
