INEC to conduct fresh registration in eight Kwara LGAs
The Kwara State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission, Chief Timothy Ibitoye on Friday said INEC will conduct fresh voters registration in eight Local Government Areas of Kwara State.
He stated that the fresh registration will be in the 76 polling units of the affected eight LGAs.
He added that the development was as a result of thumb prints of some registered voters that were not properly captured during the 2010/2011 registration.
He stated that the affected areas include Asa with one polling unit, Ekiti (12 units), Ilorin East (23 units), Ilorin South (2 units), Moro (34) while Irepodun, Isin and Offa have 1 unit each.
He spoke on Friday at INEC's meeting with members of the State Inter-Agency Advisory Committee on Voter Education and Publicity in Ilorin.
According to him, the fresh registration in the affected polling units would take place during the Continuous Registration of Voters scheduled from August 20 to August 25.
He advised the affected voters not to come to collect Permanent Voter Cards.
Ibitoye said 1,111,752 permanent Voter Cards would be distributed in 1,872 polling units in the 16 LGAs of the State.
He advised registered voters to collect their PVC during the distribution exercise.
Ibitoye added that the Commission has trained 1,672 Distribution Officers and 193 Supervisory Distribution Officers.
