Abduction inhumane, wicked - Kwara CAN
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, has condemned the activities of the Boko Haram sect.
Speaking with journalists in Offa, the chairman of the association, Venerable Dele Opeyemi, described the situation in which people were killed, maimed, kidnapped and schoolgirls abducted in the North-Eastern part of the country by insurgents as not only ungodly, but also inhumane, wicked and callous.
Venerable Opeyemi also said that the action of the Boko Haram sect had not only brought untold hardship on the people, but also created fear and panic among Nigerians and non-Nigerians, adding that the sect's acts, if not nipped in the bud, could scare away foreign investors.
The CAN chairman condemned the abduction of more than 300 secondary schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State by the insurgents and urged the Federal Government to do everything possible to rescue the abducted girls, unarmed.
He expressed fear that Nigeria was becoming a laughing stock among other nations due to insecurity and urged President Goodluck Jonathan to as a matter of urgency, take drastic steps against the Boko Haram sect, adding that the country was already in grave danger.
On the system of governance in the country, Venerable Opeyemi said the problem was not the presidential system or the constitution, but the operators, saying the stakeholders must display Christ-like virtues to achieve peace and socio-economic development for the country.
Also, the chairman, Offa Ministers' Fellowship of Nigeria, Reverend Ayo Ogidiolu, has said that the constant operation of the Boko Haram sect in Nigeria was a signal that the sect has the backing of some Nigerian leaders.
He, however, commended the USA, UK, Canada, China and France for their determination to end the activities of the sect, while urging President Jonathan to ensure the release of girls.
