An Ilorin Area Court on Tuesday dissolved a four-year-old marriage between Fatimoh Taofik and Musbau Taofik over husband's abandonment of his family.

Fatimoh, 31, a resident of Amilegbe Area, Ilorin, prayed the court to dissolve her marriage to her husband, Musbau, for abandoning her.

The petitioner told the court that her husband abandoned her for two months.

"My husband left for Abeokuta, to his uncle's place, since March 6, 2013 without caring on my wellbeing, and just returned on May 7, 2013 claiming he was searching for a job," she said.

She told the court that her husband had refused to respond to her calls whenever she called to know about his wellbeing.

Fatimoh said that their marriage was contracted in 2010 and was yet to produce any child.

"My lord, I want an end to this marriage because I can't continue to endure with a man that does not care about my survival," said the plaintiff.

The defendant, who did not object to the prayer of his wife, said that he had been struggling to make ends meet which his wife failed to understand.

"My wife knows I have been in search of a job for long and that has taken my attention, so I wonder why my wife is now complaining," he said.

He prayed the court to grant the prayer of his wife, saying he was so surprised at his wife's sudden decision.

The presiding Judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, dissolved the marriage and issued a certificate of divorce to the plaintiff.
