Don't support balkanization of Kwara- Ahmed
Addressing members of the confab delegates from the state during a visit to him in Abuja, Gov Ahmed warned that creation of additional states should not be seen as solution to the socio-economic problems in the country but good governance and optimum utilization of resources.
The Governor suggested that the revenue allocation formula should be reviewed to provide more funding to states and local governments while traditional rulers should be incorporated into governance through constitutional responsibilities.
Gov Ahmed commended delegates from the state for focusing on issues that could enhance growth and development despite their divergent political leanings and views, just as he promised to facilitate the setting up of a secretariat and the appointment of a secretary to facilitate the operations of delegates from the State to ensure unison of purpose and harmonization of views on issues of paramount importance to the State.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegates, Professor Ibrahim Gambari said they were on the visit to discuss issues of concern to Kwara State with the number one citizen of the state.
According to him, such issues include boundary adjustment, revenue allocation, devolution of power, creation of states and local governments, role of traditional rulers among others, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, AbdulWahab Oba.
