JONATHAN: NO REGION WILL FEEL EXCLUDED UNDER MY WATCH

Date: 2014-01-15

President Goodluck Jonathan has assured that no part of the country will feel excluded under his watch.

Jonathan gave the assurance inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa this afternoon while inaugurating chairmen and members of the boards of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) and the Federal Character Commission (FCC).

He said before appointing the new commissioners, there were considerations for the imperative to strengthen the two agencies for better efficiency.

The president, who noted that the new commissioners were selected on merit, charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Jonathan frowned on the mismanagement of the old pension system, saying measures had been put in place to ensure that pensioners get their entitlements as at when due.

"I want to assure all Nigerians that under my watch, no part of this country will feel excluded. Pensioners must receive their entitlements as at when due. Negative reports associated with the old system is a cause for concern", he said.

Professor Shuaibu Oba Abdul-raheem, alongside 24 commissioners, was inaugurated as chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC); while former governor of Bauchi State Adamu Mu'azu, was inaugurated as chairman of the PENCOM.

Other members of the PENCOM are Chinelo O. Anohu-Amazu (South East), Omotowa Reuben Gilbert (North Central), Mohammed Ka’oje Abubakar (North West) and Adesojo O. Olaoba-Efuntayo (South West).

In their separate remarks, Abdul-raheem and Mu'azu, on behalf of their members, thanked the president for the appointment and pledged not to disappoint Nigerians in the discharge of their responsibilities.
