Kwara to partner with institute on reduction of farm produce wastage
To reduce wastage of produce, the Kwara State Government plans to partner with Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI), Ilorin, says the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Kayode Towoju,
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Tuesday, Towoju expressed concern over the huge wastage recorded by farmers after harvest, due to the absence of modern storage techniques
He said that the collaboration with NSPRI would ensure that farmers got aquainted with the rudiments of storing excess farm produce.
This, he said, would enable them to adequately manage farm produce wastes.
the commissioner said that the ministry would organise a forum for agriculture experts to deliberate on how to improve on farm produce, to meet the state government's target on transforming the agriculture sector.
Towoju further said that the institute was expected to organise a training workshop to teach farmers and youths on modern farming technologies, to improve their yield and encourage more people to embrace.
While soliciting for government support to realise its target, he explained that the institute's major focus was to reduce the hazards farmers experienced. (NAN)
