Family to Kwara govt: Immortalise Yekini

Date: 2012-05-09

Family of the illustrious football striker, Rashidi Yekini, has asked Kwara State government to immortalize their son in view of the deceased's contributions to the football development in the country.

Speaking during the condolence visit of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmad to Eesa family house of the late football maestro in Ira town in Oyun local government area of the state yesterday, the spokesperson of the deceased's family, Mr. Abdul-lateef Amolegbe, said the deceased's talent was used to boost the image of the country while alive.

Amolegbe, who said Rashidi Yekini's contributions to Nigeria and the world at large can be attested to by all sports loving people in the globe, added that Yekini was a citizen of the world and not of Ira alone.

Amolegbe also said that anything memorable done for the late international footballer and ex-Super Eagle player would "remain an everlasting joy for the family. Earlier, Governor Ahmad traced the life of the deceased to Kaduna where he started his football career, saying "the superlative achievement of late Rasidi Yekinni in the football during his life time was not a surprise because he started well in his desire and love for soccer development".
