PPA asks INEC to sanction PDP, APC over campaigns

Date: 2014-03-08

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been asked to sanction the ruling Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) and the leading opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) over alleged early campaigns ahead of the 2015 elections.

In a press statement yesterday in Abuja, the national chairman of the Progressive Peoples' Alliance (PPA), Peter Ameh said the party frowns at the present political development where President Goodluck Jonathan and his party, the PDP have been campaigning in the name of visits.

"We want to ask the PDP and APC to tell Nigerians why they have both continued to defy the lay down rules by INEC, by campaigning for an election that is still almost one year away. We urge the Commission to sanction any one responsible for rallies.

"What do you call the President's and PDP visits to Imo State and Kwara State, the APC posters and billboards spread around Ekiti State and Osun State? These are purely campaign materials," He said.
