Yobe Massacre - Saraki Seeks Comprehensive Bi-Partisan Approach to End Boko Haram Killings
He stated this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja while reacting to the killing of over 40 students of the Federal Government College, Buni-Yadi, Yobe State.
The students were killed by persons suspected to be members of the Boko Haram, who invaded the institution in the early hours of Tuesday.
Lamenting the incident, Mr. Saraki said he could not find the right words to describe the activities of these "man-mad locust" that continued to wipe away the nation's communities and children.
"Again, I am devastated by the recent attacks in the northern part of the country which has left over 43 school children dead. We have recorded another monumental loss with the latest attack on the innocent school children killed at Federal Government College Buni Yadi," he said.
Mr. Saraki, a former governor of Kwara State, said the Yobe killings had shown that President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Ibrahim Gaidam were not on the same page on the issues of security in the state.
He called for all hands to be on deck to check the menace before all Nigerians were consumed by the incessant attacks.
He said, "While the nation was still mourning the last attack in Konduga, Borno State and seeking for ways to prevent further attacks, the latest killings obviously shows the effect of Mr President and the
Governor of the state not being on the same page and it is important that we all put heads together to address this menace before we are all consumed.
"This month alone, we have lost hundreds of lives to the activities of these militants terrorizing our existence and as a father, I am tired of having to send condolence messages to grieving mothers, fathers or siblings on this wanton spate of killings."
The senator urged all urged those responsible for the killings and other Nigerians to sheathe their words and sink their differences in the interest of the school children and for the country's overall peaceful existence.
He added, "I believe that with the continued attacks in Northern Nigeria, the support from each and every one of us irrespective of political party, religious belief and ethnicity is vital for combating violent extremism in Nigeria.
"This support also needs to have the necessary resources allocated by our Government to help ensure our nation's security. Every Nigerian can assist the government in our own ways by providing information that may be useful to the security agencies."
Mr. Saraki also condoled with the parents and families of the deceased and all those who mourn one relative or the other, saying "I pray Allah will have mercy on the deceased and return our country back to its green days."
