Date: 2013-11-20

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abddulfatah Ahmed has disclosed that the Kwara State Cargo Terminal under construction was designed to meet up with international standard just as he pledged that the project will be completed in the next 60 days.

Governor Ahmed made this known yesterday  while addressing the Transitional Implementation Committee that paid him a courtesy visit in his office, saying his government would do everything humanly possible to make sure that the project is completed in good record time.

Governor Ahmed disclosed that the rationale behind the idea of Aviation College and Cargo Terminal shed was basically to transform Kwara into major economic hub in the country.
According to him, the Cargo Terminal was designed to meet up with international standard, pointing out that the terminal will become functional in no distance time.

He attributed the slight delay in the project to lack of adequate funding from the Federal Government, adding that the coming of the committee would spur his government to do everything humanly possible to not only complete the project in good time but also make it a world class Cargo Terminal.

Earlier in his  address, the Chairperson of the Committee, Dr (Mrs) Tiribi Roripamo  Agary said they were in Kwara to inspect the state Cargo Terminal with a view to encouraging the government to expedite action on its completion.

She said the operation of Cargo Terminal has been transferred from the Society Generale Surveillance (SGS) to Nigeria Customs adding that the SGS will now be in charge of installation of scanner.

Agary commended the Kwara State government for embarking on cargo and aviation projects describing it as a good step in the right direction.
