The Kwara Commissioner of  Police, Mr Agboola  Oshodi-Glover, says the  command will assist in tackling  hooliganism in sports in the state.

Oshodi-Glover said this in Ilorin on Monday when members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara chapter, paid him a courtesy call in his office.

''We, on our part, will continue to give  positive community policing to members of the public.

''We are ready to partner with you always and would ensure we eradicate hooliganism in sports here in Kwara because we all know the important role sport plays in the unity of the country,'' he said.

He commended journalists in the state for their  good reportage and urged them to continue to embrace developmental journalism for the good of the citizenry.

The commissioner also promised to send enough personnel  to the state's  stadium complex whenever there was any sporting event to ensure safety of persons and property.

In his remarks, the state's SWAN Chairman, Bunmi Adedoyin, commended  Oshodi-Glover for being proactive in the maintenance of peace in the state.

Adedoyin noted that the fact that several events were being staged in the state  was a testimony to his hard work in ensuring security in the state.

The chairman called for improved  collaboration between the police and SWAN, promising  that the association would continue to report   the command's activities.

He solicited the support of the command toward the successful conduct of the forthcoming state SWAN Media Games. (NAN)
