Pillars secure 2-0 win over Kwara Utd
Champions, Kano Pillars on Thursday won their rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game 2-0 against Kwara United to move up to second and within a point of the leaders, Bayelsa United.
The original fixture on Wednesday was called off in the 32nd minute with Pillars leading with a goal due to heavy rains. "Sai masu Gida" picked up from where they left off upon resumption on Thursday morning, controlling the game and creating chances at will.
The NPFL kings however had to wait until the 72nd minute when Promise James added the second to seal three points and rekindle their title challenge.
Pillars were banished to Kaduna from Kano where they now play their home games following crowd disturbances during their league contest against Enyimba.
Head coach of Pillars, Baba Ganaru says they have settled in nicely in Kaduna with the locals warming up to the side and offering their support during matches.
"The fans in Kaduna have taken to us and we are still on course to defend our title. That is the target," Ganaru said to supersport.com after the game.
Following the win at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, Pillars are now up to second position in the NPFL standings with 57 points from 35 matches.
Pillars' final three games of the season are against Gombe United (in Gombe), Dolphins (in Kaduna) and Lobi Stars (in Katsina-Ala).
