New PDP is in Nigeria's Interest - Baraje
Chairman of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje yesterday said the current struggle by members of his faction is in the interest of all Nigerians.
He said his group remain resolute in its struggle to redress the wrongs in the party and would not rest on its oars until all the, “wrongs and lopsidedness in the polity are addressed.”
Seven PDP governors as well as former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and some other PDP chieftains broke away from the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP on August 31 to form the New PDP.
In his message to Nigerians on the 53rd independence anniversary, Baraje assured that the New PDP is poised to take Nigeria out of the woods while expressing appreciation to Nigerians for their solidarity and support.
Baraje said that Nigeria as a nation belongs to all Nigerians and not just a few people or a clique, stressing that the focus of the new PDP is to create a platform for equity, fairness and justice.
He stressed the need for the federal government to always abide by the constitution in all its activities and decisions as it affects individual and corporate interest of Nigerians.
He called on the Nigerian youths and Students not to despair about the government’s shoddy handling of issues affecting them especially the ongoing ASUU strike. He said necessary suggestions have been forwarded to the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Education on the best way to resolve the impasse.
“The leadership of the new PDP is unrelentingly committed to continue to work and struggle until practical empowerment of the less privileged is achieved,” Baraje added.
