The natural disaster according to the forecast, will occur in Jebba and other adjoining towns to the River Nigel' .between now and Friday, April 20, 2012.

To this end, residents of the areas have been charged to take proactive measures in order to minimize damages that may occur as a result of the heavy rainfall and its attendant flood forecast.

The Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, lion. Samuel Barni saiye stated these in a statement following the alert from the Federal Ministry of Environment, through its Flood Early Warning System (FEWS).

He, therefore, ordered all residents along river banks to vacate the areas and ensure strict compliance as the Ministry of Environment and Forestry would soon commence the demolition of illegal structures along river banks.

The commissioner also advised members of the public to sanitize their drainages and stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse into gutters, rivers, waterways and streams so as to create a sustainable, friendly .and hazard-free environment in the state.
