Gov tasks Kwara LG bosses on development
Local Government chairmen in Kwara state have been charged to redouble their efforts towards meeting the needs of their people.
Speaking at a meeting with the chairmen liaison officers and the youth empowerment coordinators of the 16 local government areas of the state, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed said the meeting was called to sensitise them to what was being done at the state level and what was expected of them at the grass roots.
Governor Ahmed said his administration had spelt out policy trust especially in the areas affecting the lives of the people.
He said the areas include provision of potable water, road rehabilitation and construction, agriculture, education, energy, environment and healthcare services.
Ahmed also said that government policy trust would be made available to the chairmen through the office of the Secretary to the State Government for them to design their own programmes that would address the needs of the people.
He said that the state government expected local government chairmen to key into policies that affect their areas with a view to bringing succour to the people.
He also said that his administration had mapped out a 12-month programme in this year's budget that would address the needs of the people at the state level.
The governor then directed the chairmen to initiate similar programmes in their budgets as well as take full ownership of projects including state government projects in their areas towards ensuring that they make positive impact in the lives of the rural dwellers.
