Muslims celebrate Eid-Fitri peacefully in Ilorin

Muslims across the world on Wednesday observed two rakats, signifying the end of the thirty days Ramadan fast.

A rakat involves certain movements and words followed by Muslims while offering prayers to God.

In Ilorin, the worshippers started converging at the Ilorin Eid praying ground as early as seven o’clock, this morning.

VON Correspondent reports that there was tight security at the praying ground, with the men and officers of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, Road Safety, State Security Service, VIO, private security guards and vigilante groups manning the entrance of the praying ground.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Okaula coordinated the security apparatus at the praying ground.

Two supplication rakats that always observed around past nine or ten 0’clock was observed today at twenty five minutes to nine.

The two rakats prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Mohammed Bashir Soliu.

In his sermon,  Soliu, implored Muslims to complete their Ramadan fast with the discharge of the compulsory responsibility of giving out Zakatul Fitri  to the downtroddens in the society.

Imam Bashir Soliu stressed the need for the rich to extend their hands of generosity to the poor in order to promote equity,  fairness and justice.

He also reminded them of death as inevitable and urged Muslims to always prepare for it.

The Emir of Ilorin and chairman Kwara State Traditional Council, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, enjoined Muslims to continue to exemplify the life of Prophet Muhammad and extend such to adherents of the different religions.

The Emir stated this in his sallah message delivered at the Ilorin Central Yidi praying ground shortly after the two rakats prayer.

While felicitating with the entire Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of the Spiritual exercise passed during the outcome month of Ramadan,  Sulu-Gambari urged residents to continue to live in peace and always shun violence.
