Lawan will make a better Senate President - Justice Forum

Date: 2015-04-24

THE Justice Forum has called on senators-elect and those returning to ensure that the Chairman, Senate Committee on  Public Accounts, Senator Ahmad Lawan, was elected the Senate President, stating that he possessed an impeccable pedigree that stood him out of others jostling for the position.

Briefing newsmen, yesterday, in Abuja, Executive Director and National Coordinator of the group,  Mr. Oladunjoye Babatunde, said Lawan had the needed integrity for the office.

Babatunde urged senators of the 8th Senate to dissociate themselves from the aspirations of some who were already considered unfit for such office.

He said:  “Senator Lawan has no link with any corruption case. It is on record that when he was a member of the House of Representatives, he was given huge responsibilities such as chairing the Committees on Education and Agriculture.

“Anyone familiar with the Legislature would know that one, these committees were traditionally reserved for the ruling party, but Lawan, who was in the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, then successfully steered the affairs of these committees and commendably too.
